Q. How do you know the size and shape of my ‘Famous name’ sofa to make Covers
A. Lynplan have specialised in these makes for over 60 years. As each model has become available we have recorded all the details, made a cover, tested, and over the years refined it. The pattern is now recorded on a Computer-Aided-Design system so it will always be cut the same and accurately every time on a computer cutter.
Our obsession with these pieces of furniture has extended to discovering variations in a model during manufacture and putting a system in place to differentiate between them. On more than one occasion the original manufacturers have asked us for information on their own models!
Q. Do you do Covers and Re-Upholstery for other makes not listed on this site?
A. Yes, the makes listed are the ones where we can offer our fabric sampling and pricing service by post. We can also Cover and Re-Upholster just about any other style of furniture - see the the question 'Do you send Reps? below'.
Q. Can you replace recliner mechanisms?
A. Unfortunately no. We did have a supply of mechanisms which we purchased from Parker Knoll when they closed their High Wycombe factory but these are exhausted. When re-upholstering the Norton recliner we can offer a refurbished mechanism and our sister company Furnifix (www.furnifix.co.uk) holds a stock of replacement recliner electrics.
Q. How do I wash my covers?
A. Washing instructions will be included with your Covers if washable and on the sewn-in labels. Generally machine wash, although domestic machines will usually only take small to medium chairs and cushions covers. Drip dry – do not tumble dry.
Q. Do you send out Reps?
A. For the ‘Famous Name’ furniture everything can be done by post – sending you samples, information and prices. Larger samples are also available. This keeps the cost down which is reflected in really competitive prices for the standard of Covers or Re-Upholstery. For other makes we have furniture specialists who cover much of the midlands and all of southern England.
To get a quotation for furniture not listed in our 'Famous Names' range we will arrange for one of our Specialists to visit you, show you fabrics and give a quotation. Prices are more similar to other suppliers (but still very competitive!) because of the individual nature of the work, and you benefit from the quality of the Lynplan product and the Guarantees. Nearly all visits are by full-time Lynplan employees - not commission-only reps. Q. What if I’m not satisfied with my Covers?
A. We would endeavour to quickly and efficiently correct any problem, but if you remain unsatisfied or simply don’t like your Covers we offer our famous Money-Back-Guarantee on Covers in Lynplan fabrics. We were the first Company ever to offer such a Guarantee on Covers and are virtually unique even today for this standard of product.
Q. Will I be able to fit my Covers?
A. Covers for ‘Famous Name’ furniture are dispatched to you with full fitting instructions. These are Tailored Covers - not loose or sloppy ones so you will need to spend a little time and effort to get the best fit - but it will be worth it. If you are ordering new cushion interiors with your covers, we will fit them for you before dispatch, also if you order replacement buttons (if appropriate), we will button the cushions too.
Q. I have buttons on the back of my furniture will they disappear when I have Covers?
A. You will still have the buttoned effect by the use of our famous ‘Twirlyn’ buttons which are covered in the same fabric as your covers, but twirl in beside the original button underneath. This pulls the cover into the hollow made by the original button so retaining the buttoned effect.
Q. If I'm having the wood re-polished on my re-upholstered furniture, can I have it a lighter shade? A. Unfortunately not - Although we strip off all the old polish and sand back to the bare wood, the old polish gets down into the pores of the wood leaving dark streaks and dots in the wood. We can only re-polish to the same shade or darker.
Q. My furniture will be in property which will be let – will it comply with the fire regulations?
A. Yes, if Re-Upholstered by Lynplan as we will replace all fillings with Fire Retardant materials and fit the appropriate labels. For more see the link ‘How safe is my sofa’
Q. Can I use my own fabric?
A. Yes in certain circumstances, but see the link on 'what you need to know about fabric' to see the demanding requirements for fabrics used for Covers and Re-Upholstery. If your requirement is to have a particular look or design and there's not a suitable fabric in the Lynplan range, then it's an option worth pursuing. However if you are aiming to save cost through this route, you are unlikely to do so.
