Ercol

In my opinion the best show-wood furniture being made in the UK today. 

Having been taken round their state-of-the-art factory, I can attest to the extraordinary care and craftsmanship built into this furniture.  They use the very best hardwoods, especially grown for them and are leaders in design. 

Ercol furniture probably more than any other lends itself to replacement Covers, Cushion Interiors and Re-Upholstery.  A lot of care, attention and first class material has gone into the frame which will last for years and years – and that’s reflected in the price of new Ercol furniture. 

With most of the models being a beautifully crafted frame with loose cushions, or cushions attached by studs, and complete makeover of your furniture is quite simple to do. 

If your cushion interiors are in good condition you will simply need new Covers, although Covers with replacement interiors will bring the furniture up to showroom comfort.  Replacement rubber webs are also available from Lynplan if these are showing signs of wear and information on these will be included in the pack should you request one. 

Re-Upholstery for Ercol is mostly a question of re-polishing the frame before fitting new webbing, Covers and Cushion Interiors.  The wood is such a key feature of this furniture that if the original polish has become damaged or worn away, re-polishing will virtually bring it back to showroom condition. 

A quick word on Lynplan re-polishing:  When we re-polish wood as part of our Re-Upholstery service, the old polish is completely stripped off by hand (it is not dipped in a tank which would damage all the joints).  Our carpenter then checks all joints and knocks apart and re-glues any loose ones. 

The wood is then hand sanded down to the bare wood to give a good foundation to the polish.  As you can imagine it takes hours to carefully sand down the ‘sticks’ which characterize many Ercol models.  Only once the wood is properly prepared is the wood spray polished in a manner similar to the original. 

Identifying Ercol Models:  As Ercol furniture does not carry a model number or name on the furniture itself we publish an identification guide so that you can find out which model you have.  There have also been variations within models over the years so there is further information included to ensure you get the right covers and or cushions for your model.
