Lynplan has an unrivalled service for owners of Cintique furniture. Our association with Cintique goes back to the earliest days of the Company. In fact, the first Tailored Covers my Dad designed were for Cintique chairs.
Later when we added Parker Knoll and others to our range and our press adverts listed Parker Knoll, Cintique Ercol etc Lionel Cinnamon the owner of Cintique phoned my Dad and tried to persuade him to list Cintique first!
You’ll know well enough how comfortable your Cintique furniture is. This is down to good design and an excellent springing system. Although some models have departed from their traditional ‘web of springs’ under the seat, most benefit from this almost indestructible system.
In recent years we have seen some companies try to copy the Cintique style – but you can take it from us (and we’ve taken apart and refurbished thousands of Cintique chairs) that they don’t bear any comparison with the quality of genuine Cintique furniture.
Beautiful show wood frames are a feature of most Cintique furniture. It is generally constructed from solid Beech wood (although Afrormosia has featured among others) which is well machined, jointed, and polished.
Nearly all the early models had removable cushions and components which made them particularly suitable for replacement covers and cushions – in fact for many models buying Lynplan replacement cushion interiors and Covers will take your furniture virtually back to ‘as new’ condition. But if that lovely show-wood frame is showing a bit too much wear, complete Re-Upholstery will see it stripped back to the bare wood, then sanded, sealed and polished back to showroom condition before new cushions and Covers are fitted.
Information you should know about Cintique furniture.
Whether you are thinking of buying second-hand Cintique for use, or refurbishment, or are considering Covers or Re-Upholstery for your favourite Chair or settee these notes will help:
What model of Cintique? The Cintique Company identified its early models with a combination of letter and number – T1, W77 etc. Later they used names – St James, Anthos, and so on. Generally there is not an identifying model name or number on the furniture itself.
If you don’t know the model of Cintique you have, we publish an illustrated guide to the models which is sent with every set of samples requested for Covers or Re-Upholstery.
Re-polishing wood: The show-wood is one of the most delightful features of Cintique furniture. However if you are tempted to strip the wood yourself, stain it and re-polish it you are likely to be disappointed. The Beech was not cut with the direction of the grain in mind for staining so the result will not look very good.
You will find if you look carefully at the wood, that most of the colour is in the polish itself so although the grain is evident, it’s not prominent. To re-create the same effect you need to use a coloured lacquer which really needs to be sprayed on to get that lovely smooth polished effect. (At Lynplan this is how we re-polish the wood, after stripping it back completely, sanding then applying 3 coats of polish)
Can I have wood polished to ‘natural’ or lighter colour? Unfortunately no – the original polish gets down into the pores in the wood and no matter how much you strip and sand the wood, you are left with little dark dots.
